Confidence Vote from APC governors reaffirms Hope Uzodinma’s leadership and dismisses speculation of division

The Progressive Governors’ Forum has passed a strong vote of confidence in its chairman, Hope Uzodinma, as 18 governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress dismissed reports of an alleged leadership shake-up within the group.

The Confidence Vote was delivered on Friday after a closed-door meeting at the Imo Lodge, where governors physically present reaffirmed their support for Hope Uzodinma and rejected speculation that he had been replaced as chairman of the influential forum.

The development followed reports that some members had allegedly announced Peter Mbah as the new leader of the forum during a meeting on Thursday night.

However, governors in attendance firmly denied the reports and described them as false and misleading.

Among those present at the meeting were governors from Ondo, Kaduna, Taraba, Sokoto, Ebonyi, Borno, Lagos, Kogi, Kano, Yobe, Kebbi, Benue and Jigawa states, while Nasarawa State was represented by its deputy governor.

Governor Agbu Kefas was also present briefly before departing after a short private meeting with Hope Uzodinma.

Moving the motion for the Confidence Vote, Nasir Idris reaffirmed that Hope Uzodinma remains chairman of the forum, while Uba Sani continues as deputy chairman.

“We don’t have any problem to justify what they have said. So, I want to seize this opportunity to move a vote of confidence in our chairman and his deputy,” Nasir Idris said.

Speaking after the meeting, Uba Sani described reports of internal crisis as unfortunate and insisted that the forum remained united.

“All of us woke up to that very unfortunate story, which was virtually in all the media in Nigeria. But the truth of the matter is that the APC Progressive Governors’ Forum is very united,” he said.

Uba Sani added that the governors were fully aligned behind President Bola Tinubu and committed to supporting his administration.

He stressed that the APC was stronger than ever and dismissed claims of division within the ruling party.

Hope Uzodinma also addressed journalists after the meeting, insisting that APC governors remained focused on governance and preparation for the party’s next electoral cycle.

According to the Imo governor, the forum had resolved to intensify efforts to deliver governance and social interventions that would improve the lives of Nigerians.

“Governors of the All Progressives Congress are united and resolved to support Mr President and ensure that he emerges successfully in the upcoming elections in January 2027,” Hope Uzodinma said.

He added that the governors had agreed to work harder and sustain performance-driven governance as part of preparations for future party primaries and electoral contests.

The latest Confidence Vote appears to have decisively ended speculation over leadership tensions within the Progressive Governors’ Forum.
