APC rejects implosion claims ahead of its national convention, insisting the ruling party remains united and strategically prepared

The All Progressives Congress has dismissed opposition projections that the party will fracture after its forthcoming national convention, describing the claims as misguided and politically motivated.

Mr Seye Oladejo, Lagos State spokesman of the All Progressives Congress, made the declaration in a statement issued on Sunday, insisting that the ruling party remained cohesive and forward-looking as it prepares for its convention.

Mr Oladejo said the narrative of an impending crisis was being driven by rivals seeking relevance amid their own internal disarray and electoral uncertainty ahead of the next political cycle.

“Lagos APC has noted with amusement recent opposition claims predicting an ‘implosion’ ahead of our national convention,” Mr Oladejo said.

“Such projections are misplaced. They amount to wishful thinking by a fragmented opposition projecting its own failures onto a united APC.”

The spokesman maintained that APC rejects implosion claims because its conventions have historically served as platforms for renewal, reconciliation and consolidation rather than arenas of discord.

“Our conventions are platforms of renewal and consolidation, not chaos,” Mr Oladejo stated.

Mr Oladejo pointed to the recently concluded membership e-registration exercise as evidence of what he described as the party’s institutional strength and administrative coordination nationwide.

The digital registration drive, he said, was embraced across states and demographic groups, strengthening the party’s database and enhancing transparency.

The spokesman argued that while the APC was consolidating its structures, opposition parties were weakened by leadership disputes and persistent defections.

Rather than offering coherent policy alternatives, Mr Oladejo said, opposition figures appeared trapped in reactive politics and public recriminations.

Mr Oladejo also expressed concern over remarks attributed to a former state governor alleging he admitted tapping the National Security Adviser’s telephone conversations.

If accurate, Mr Oladejo said, such action would raise serious legal and national security concerns requiring accountability.

In addition, Mr Oladejo accused another former minister of circulating misinformation regarding recent tax law reforms, stressing that citizens deserved clarity rather than politically coloured interpretations.

“A healthy democracy requires a credible opposition capable of presenting viable alternatives and engaging constructively,” Mr Oladejo said.

He warned that when opposition parties fail to maintain cohesion or articulate policy options, democratic discourse suffers.

“When the opposition cannot organise itself, it does not threaten the APC; it weakens democratic competition,” Mr Oladejo added.

Reiterating that APC rejects implosion claims, Mr Oladejo said the party remained focused on governance delivery, organisational strengthening and electoral preparedness as it approaches both its national convention and future elections.

“There is no implosion, only renewed momentum, unity of purpose and strategic alignment as we advance towards the next electoral cycle,” Mr Oladejo stated.
