Ogbomoso power substation robbery shocks residents as armed men attack 132KVA facility in Oyo State and cart away equipment

Armed men numbering about six have reportedly attacked a 132KVA power substation in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, in a violent incident that has raised fresh concerns over infrastructure security in the region.

Ogbomoso substation robbery incident occurred on Monday at the Temidire/Ajeja facility along Ikirun Road, where the assailants allegedly invaded the station and carted away electrical equipment.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers arrived fully armed and equipped with tools used to dismantle and remove components from the facility during the raid.

A security guard at the station, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspects fled the scene immediately after carrying out the operation.

Ogbomoso power facility robbery case prompted swift responses from local authorities, with chiefs from the palace of the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Afolabi Olaoye, visiting the site shortly after the attack.

Officials of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) from the Ganmo station also visited Ogbomoso to assess the extent of the damage and review security lapses at the facility.

Among the officials who inspected the site were Engr. Adetunji (Assistant General Manager, Transmission), Engr. Afusat Umar Muazu, and Engr. Adetoyinbo A. Adekunle from TCN Ilorin.

As of the time of filing this report, the total value of the equipment stolen had not yet been disclosed, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The attack adds to growing concerns over the vulnerability of critical power infrastructure across the country, as authorities continue efforts to track down the perpetrators.
