Arsenal Manchester City title race intensifies as Paul Merson urges Arsenal to win key matches and apply pressure on City

Former England midfielder Paul Merson has warned Arsenal that they must seize their upcoming fixtures to regain control of the Premier League title race, after Manchester City briefly moved top of the table following a narrow win over Burnley.

Arsenal and Manchester City Premier League showdown remains finely balanced, with both sides level on points and goal difference, leaving City ahead only on goals scored after their 1-0 victory on Wednesday night.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Merson described Manchester City’s resurgence as “scary,” noting that Pep Guardiola’s side have once again surged into the title conversation at a critical stage of the season.

He stressed, however, that Arsenal still hold a key advantage in the immediate fixture schedule, with Mikel Arteta’s side set to play twice before City return to action.

Merson said Arsenal must convert those games against Newcastle United and Fulham into maximum points, arguing that a potential six-point swing could dramatically reshape the title race.

He added that failure to capitalise would hand momentum back to City, who remain strong contenders as the season approaches its decisive phase.

Arsenal are set to host Newcastle United this weekend before facing Fulham, while Manchester City travel to Everton in their next league outing.
