Arteta confirms Madueke injury

Arteta confirms Madueke injury as Arsenal suffer another setback, with Hincapié also doubtful for the Carabao Cup tie against Port Vale

Noni Madueke will be sidelined for around two months after sustaining a knee problem during Sunday’s 1-1 Premier League draw with Manchester City.

The setback adds to a worrying injury trend for the Gunners, who have lost key players in each of their five league fixtures this season.

Madueke’s absence comes just as supporters were beginning to see the attacking depth of Mikel Arteta’s squad. The young forward had impressed in flashes since joining, but will now face a lengthy recovery.

In another concern, new signing Piero Hincapié—expected to make his first Arsenal start against Port Vale—has also suffered a groin injury.

Arteta explained that the Ecuadorian defender, who came off the bench in last week’s Champions League win over Athletic Club, remains under assessment.

“There’s been a change of load and he didn’t really have a pre-season after the injury,” Arteta said. “We’ll have to see in the next week or so how he is. I think a short time out.”
