Asake rejected UK study offer, his mother reveals, explaining why the singer chose OAU and how it shaped his music career

The mother of Nigerian music star Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has revealed that the singer once rejected an opportunity to study in the United Kingdom despite her efforts to fund his education abroad.

She made the disclosure during an appearance on Korty EO’s YouTube podcast, where she shared details of Asake’s early life and academic choices.

According to her, she had already made financial arrangements and secured an international passport with the intention of sending Ahmed Ololade to the UK.

However, the plan took an unexpected turn when the young artist insisted on pursuing his studies in Nigeria.

Ahmed Ololade eventually enrolled at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State, where he studied Performing Arts, a decision that would later prove pivotal to his career.

A family acquaintance, Muyideen Oladapo, popularly known as Lala, played a key role in persuading her to support the decision. Muyideen Oladapo also assisted in facilitating the admission process into the university.

Speaking on the podcast, Asake’s mother admitted she initially had concerns about his strong-willed personality, describing him as “stubborn”, but said she eventually accepted his choice after receiving reassurance.

“Because he was stubborn, I decided to gather money here and there and told him to go to the UK. I had gotten his international passport,” she said.

She recounted how Ahmed Ololade approached her with determination, insisting on furthering his education locally rather than abroad.

The decision to study Performing Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University later became a defining moment in his creative journey, shaping the distinctive style that has propelled him to fame in Nigeria’s music industry.

In a related revelation during the same podcast, Asake explained the meaning behind his nickname “Giran,” noting that it translates to “stubborn” in Yoruba, a fitting description that aligns with his mother’s account of his resolve.
