Atiku Abubakar ADC takeover allegations are intensifying political tensions as Nigeria heads toward the 2027 general elections.

Party insiders claim that over 70% of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) structure—spanning state chapters, zonal bodies, and the national leadership—has been captured by Atiku’s loyalists. The alleged strategy, they say, is part of his plan to challenge President Bola Tinubu.

Sources insist Atiku financed the manoeuvre, using resources to secure loyalty and influence leadership changes where resistance emerged. They claim other opposition heavyweights, including Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi, now find themselves trailing in the ADC power race.

Obi’s Obidient Movement has formally complained about being sidelined in coalition decision-making. National Coordinator Tanko Yunusa called it “a work in progress,” while noting Obi remains a Labour Party member for now.

ADC leaders deny any takeover, pledging a level playing field for all aspirants. The ruling APC, however, has dismissed the coalition as “a marriage of strange bedfellows” destined for failure.
