Speaking during a courtesy visit to Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Obi argued that the Nigerian presidency should adopt a single five-year term similar to South Korea’s system.

Obi said, “If I have the opportunity, we should stop having a second tenure for president. It should be five years straight, so people come in knowing they have a job to do.”

He added that the current practice encourages presidents to focus on securing a second term rather than effective governance. “Let’s face the real job, do your own and go,” Obi urged.

The 2027 presidential hopeful pledged he would not spend more than one term in office, emphasizing political parties should be stronger than individual leaders.

Obi stated, “I want the party to be bigger than the president and the governors so that we can have orderliness.”

In response, Governor Bala Mohammed invited Obi to return to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), saying, “That is where you belong.”
