Club Atlético de Madrid produced a ruthless performance to secure a commanding 2-0 victory over 10-man FC Barcelona in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final at Camp Nou on Wednesday night.

The Atletico Madrid Barcelona 2-0 win was shaped by decisive second-half moments, as Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth struck to punish the hosts after Pau Cubarsi’s red card left Barcelona with a mountain to climb.

The turning point came just before half-time when Cubarsi was sent off for a last-man challenge on Giuliano Simeone.

Referee Istvan Kovacs initially issued a yellow card but upgraded it to red following a VAR review, leaving Barcelona to face the remainder of the match with 10 men.

Julian Alvarez delivered a moment of brilliance, curling the resulting free-kick into the top corner to give Diego Simeone’s side a deserved lead. The goal added a layer of control to Atletico’s disciplined and compact display.
