Bolt’s dash cam feature is set to transform ride-hailing safety in Nigeria as the platform partners with US-based Driver Technologies to convert drivers’ smartphones into advanced dash cams — recording both the inside and outside of vehicles in real-time.

The new tool is a direct response to drivers’ calls for better protection during disputes, insurance claims, or interactions with law enforcement.

Through the partnership, Bolt driver-partners will receive one free month of access to the premium Driver app, after which the subscription will cost a discounted ₦4,810 ($3.50) per month.

“Drivers regularly tell us that a dash cam can provide them with additional security and peace of mind,” said Osi Oguah, Bolt Nigeria’s General Manager.

Traditional dash cams remain cost-prohibitive for many drivers in Nigeria, making this smartphone-based alternative both accessible and impactful.

The app includes picture-in-picture features for non-intrusive recording and stores footage in the Driver Cloud, where it can be retrieved or shared when needed.

This rollout is part of Bolt’s broader strategy to tailor global safety solutions to local African markets — where cost barriers often limit access to high-end hardware.

The app works seamlessly in the background during rides, ensuring uninterrupted service.

“Our partnership ensures drivers get the tools they need to create safer environments for themselves and their passengers,” Oguah added.

The new functionality complements existing Bolt safety tools such as Trusted Contacts and Pick-Up Codes, reinforcing Bolt’s investment in driver security across Africa.

For Driver Technologies, the move marks a step into the fast-growing African mobility sector.
