Rice completed a £105 million move from West Ham United to Arsenal in 2023, becoming the most expensive signing in the North London club’s history. Since arriving at the Emirates Stadium, the England international has established himself as one of the key figures in Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Fernandes revealed that he had long admired Rice during his time at West Ham and believed the midfielder possessed the attributes needed to thrive at Manchester United.

The Portuguese playmaker admitted he was saddened by Rice’s decision to join Arsenal, although he acknowledged uncertainty over whether a concrete opportunity to move to United was ever presented.

According to Fernandes, Rice’s style of play, leadership qualities, and physical presence would have suited Manchester United perfectly.

Before his eventual transfer to Arsenal, Rice had attracted strong interest from several Premier League clubs, including Manchester City and Manchester United, following his impressive performances for West Ham and the England national team.
