Veteran Italian football coach Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly agreed to take over as the head coach of the Brazilian national team, according to multiple reports from Spanish media outlets on Monday.

Ancelotti currently has one more year remaining on his contract with Spanish giants Real Madrid. However, following their recent quarter-final elimination from the Champions League by Arsenal and a Copa del Rey defeat at the hands of arch-rivals Barcelona, speculation has intensified regarding his potential departure from the Santiago Bernabeu.

Ancelotti himself has acknowledged the possibility of an exit, stating that his future was “a topic for the next weeks” following Real Madrid’s defeat by Barcelona on Saturday.

Spanish media sources indicate that Ancelotti is poised to take charge of the Brazilian national team ahead of their 2026 World Cup qualifiers scheduled for June.

This timeline suggests that he would be leaving Real Madrid before the commencement of the Club World Cup in the United States this summer.

Brazil recently dismissed their coach, Dorival Junior, following a heavy 4-1 defeat against Argentina in March. The Brazilian national team currently sits fourth in the South American qualifying table for the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the US, Mexico, and Canada.

Ancelotti boasts a successful track record with Real Madrid, having led the club to a Champions League and La Liga double in the previous season.

Key Brazilian stars Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes were integral to that triumph. Ancelotti is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished coaches in Real Madrid’s history.

During his first tenure at Real Madrid, he guided them to their coveted “La Decima” – their tenth Champions League title.

He has won the prestigious competition three times with Los Blancos across two separate stints, having been initially sacked in 2015 but returning to the club in 2021 after Zinedine Zidane’s resignation.

This season, however, Real Madrid has displayed defensive vulnerabilities and currently trails La Liga leaders Barcelona by four points, making a successful title defense their primary remaining hope for major silverware.
