Caverton Offshore Support Group has emphasised its commitment to local aviation training and technological innovation as a delegation of senior military officers from the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) Course 10, 2026, visited its Lagos aviation hub.

The visit, held at the Caverton Aviation Training Centre near Murtala Muhammed International Airport, highlighted the company’s growing influence in pilot training, aircraft maintenance, drone operations, and regional logistics.

During the visit, Caverton’s Chief Operating Officer, Rotimi Makanjuola, presented the company’s operations, showcasing its role as a leading indigenous aviation and offshore logistics provider in West Africa.

He stressed the importance of on-ground training for pilots, citing the cost savings, efficiency, and enhanced national capacity offered by the simulators.

“Training is important, and nothing beats having a facility on the ground for pilot preparation. This simulator ensures pilots are ready locally, reducing foreign exchange losses and man-hours,” Makanjuola said.

The delegation, which included officers from South Africa and Cameroon, toured Caverton’s AW139 and AW109 simulators, Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) unit, and other aviation facilities.

Countries such as Ivory Coast, Mozambique, and the Republic of Benin have previously partnered with Caverton, reflecting its regional footprint.

Makanjuola also showcased the company’s capability to restore aircraft previously deemed unserviceable and provide emergency technical support for international flights, underscoring its operational reliability.

The Army officers were briefed on Caverton’s emerging drone and unmanned aerial systems initiatives, including agricultural drones deployed for crop monitoring and fertiliser distribution.

A notable programme trained ten female engineers to assemble and operate drones, promoting technical skills and gender inclusion.

Brigadier-General Olakunle Olayinka highlighted the value of exposing senior officers to strategic sectors of the economy, noting that such visits demonstrate the contribution of private-sector innovation to national development.

Brigadier-General Bala Fakandu emphasised the strategic importance of collaboration between military institutions and indigenous aviation companies.

The engagement allowed the Army War College participants to witness advanced simulation technologies, maintenance operations, and UAV innovations firsthand, illustrating how local expertise can bolster Nigeria’s strategic autonomy and operational capability.
