Chelsea are continuing talks with Sunderland over Granit Xhaka as the player reportedly pushes for a move to Stamford Bridge this summer

Chelsea FC are set to continue negotiations with Sunderland AFC this week over a potential move for midfielder Granit Xhaka, as talks intensify in an effort to reach an agreement on the transfer fee.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Chelsea’s initial offer of around £8 million has not been accepted, with Sunderland holding out for a higher valuation of the experienced midfielder.

Despite the stalled negotiations, Xhaka is said to be actively pushing for a move to Stamford Bridge as discussions progress between both clubs.

The Swiss international is reportedly keen on reuniting with coach Xabi Alonso, with whom he previously worked, a factor believed to be influencing his desire to complete the transfer.

Chelsea remain confident that continued dialogue could help bridge the gap in valuation as the Premier League side looks to strengthen its midfield options ahead of the new season.

Sunderland’s stance suggests they are unwilling to sanction an immediate departure without improved terms, leaving the deal still open but far from finalised at this stage.
