According to reports from the BBC, former Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Real Madrid CF coach Xabi Alonso and Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola are currently among the leading contenders for the role.

Chelsea officials are said to regard Alonso as one of the strongest options because of his managerial achievements at Bayer Leverkusen and his reputation within European football.

Although his brief spell at Real Madrid ended in disappointment earlier this year, club executives reportedly still believe he possesses the experience and leadership qualities required at Stamford Bridge.

Reports from Sky Sports suggest Chelsea view Alonso as having the strongest managerial profile among the names under consideration, combining elite-level coaching credentials with a distinguished playing career.

The Athletic also reports that Alonso is open to returning to management after leaving Real Madrid in January, just seven months after succeeding Carlo Ancelotti.

Meanwhile, Iraola has emerged as another serious option after confirming he will leave Bournemouth when his current contract expires at the end of the season.

Chelsea are also believed to be monitoring other candidates, including Fulham manager Marco Silva and Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner.

Former Chelsea players Cesc Fàbregas and Filipe Luís are also reportedly admired within the club’s hierarchy.
