Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca confirms Cole Palmer is fit to face Manchester United, with injury assessments pending for other squad members

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Cole Palmer is fit and available for selection ahead of Saturday’s Premier League showdown against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Friday, Maresca reassured fans that Palmer is ready to feature after recovering well from the midweek Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich.

“Yes, Cole is okay,” Maresca said. “We have a training session now where we will look at the players. We flew back yesterday [from Munich], so we need to assess some of the guys before we make a decision for the weekend.”

The Blues face Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United side on Saturday evening, eager to bounce back following the loss in Bavaria.

The short turnaround has raised concerns about squad fatigue, with Maresca admitting that several players remain doubtful ahead of the clash.

“We haven’t had a session since the game on Wednesday. We have some doubts, but we will see after today’s training session,” he added.

One notable return to Chelsea’s squad is Marc Guiu, who was recalled earlier this month from his loan at Sunderland following an injury to Liam Delap.

Maresca confirmed that the young Spaniard is in contention to feature and hinted at a potential role in the attack as the season progresses.

“Marc Guiu is back and the reason why he is back is because we intend to use him,” said Maresca.

“He is a good player and while he needs to do things better and can still improve, we know what Marc can offer us. For sure, we are going to use him.”

Chelsea are aiming to return to winning ways in the league and will be hoping Palmer’s availability, combined with additional attacking options, gives them the edge at Old Trafford.
