The 23-year-old, who had recently returned to training following a two-month groin injury, reportedly sustained the injury at home after stubbing his toe on a door.

Maresca said Palmer will be unavailable for Saturday’s trip to Burnley, Tuesday’s home match against Barcelona, and the following weekend’s clash with Premier League leaders Arsenal.

“He is probably not available for tomorrow for sure, Barcelona for sure, or Arsenal for sure,” Maresca said.

“Unfortunately, he had an accident at home where he hit his toe, but it is nothing serious — though he won’t be back in the next week.”

Palmer has been a key figure for Chelsea this season and previously scored twice in the Club World Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain in July.
