Curtis Jones Inter transfer moves closer as Liverpool agree a €35m package with the Serie A club, with personal terms settled and a medical planned
Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, Inter Milan and Liverpool Football Club reached a major breakthrough on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, with Inter agreeing a €35 million package to sign the 25-year-old England international from the Premier League club.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported that a verbal agreement is in place between Liverpool and Inter, while Jones has also agreed terms with the Italian champions. A medical examination is now being planned before the transfer can be completed.
Romano described the development as “here we go”, indicating that the principal terms of the deal have been settled, although the formal documentation and medical remain outstanding.
The agreement brings an end to several months of uncertainty surrounding the Liverpool academy graduate, who has entered the final year of his contract at Anfield. Earlier reports indicated that Liverpool were reluctant to sell Jones below their valuation of about €40 million.
Inter’s pursuit of Jones has been persistent. The Serie A champions previously saw an offer of about €25 million rejected, while subsequent approaches were also below Liverpool’s valuation. By late July, Inter had indicated a willingness to raise the package to €35 million.
The eventual agreement therefore represents a significant shift in negotiations. Liverpool have secured a substantial fee for a player who could otherwise have entered the final months of his contract with the possibility of leaving as a free agent in 2027.
Jones joined Liverpool’s youth system in 2010 and progressed through the academy before making his senior debut in January 2019.
The Liverpool-born midfielder subsequently became an established member of the first-team squad and has also represented England at senior level.
His versatility has been an important feature of his Liverpool career. Jones can operate centrally or in more advanced midfield positions, while Liverpool have also used him in wider roles when required.
His departure will nevertheless leave Liverpool with a decision to make over midfield depth.
Recent reports have suggested that new head coach Andoni Iraola had been keen to assess Jones, although the midfielder’s uncertain contract situation continued to attract interest from Inter.
For Inter, the move offers an opportunity to add a technically gifted English midfielder to a squad that has continued to evolve after winning the Serie A and Coppa Italia double last season.
The club had identified Jones as a target well before the latest breakthrough, with interest dating back to January.
Jones’ decision also gives the transfer a personal dimension. Having spent the majority of his footballing life at Liverpool, the move to Italy would represent his first experience of playing outside England.
The next major step is the medical. Once that is successfully completed and the formal paperwork is signed, Jones will be able to begin a new chapter with Inter.
The transfer has therefore progressed from a prolonged negotiation to a potentially decisive stage, with a €35 million agreement now in place and only the final formalities standing between the midfielder and a move to Serie A.
