Customs seizes N2.47bn goods in Ogun as officers intercept vehicles, petroleum products, used clothing and illicit commodities along border routes

The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has recorded seizures with a combined Duty Paid Value of N2.469 billion in Ogun State, as officers intensify efforts to curb smuggling and cross-border economic offences.

The command disclosed the seizures in a statement on Thursday, September 18, 2026, listing petroleum products, second-hand clothing, used footwear and a luxury vehicle among the intercepted items.

One of the most notable seizures was a 2026 Range Rover Sport Autobiography P530, which the command valued at N417,011,982.

Other seized items included 8,675 litres of Premium Motor Spirit concealed in kegs, 500 litres of diesel, 24 bales of second-hand clothing and four sacks of used shoes.

The command also handed over 3,893 parcels of cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s Idiroko Special Command for further investigation and necessary action.

The seizures form part of what the command described as sustained enforcement along Ogun’s border corridors, where officers are working to prevent the movement of uncustomed goods and illicit commodities.

The command said its operations have been strengthened through collaboration with the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, NDLEA and environmental management agencies.

Over the past 10 months, the agencies have held joint security meetings and other engagements aimed at coordinating operations and tackling cross-border crimes.

Beyond enforcement, the command said it had maintained dialogue with traditional rulers, youth leaders and border community associations to improve relations with residents and reduce tensions arising from customs operations.

The command also highlighted community-focused initiatives and environmental stewardship activities undertaken as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts.

The development comes as the customs authorities continue to combine border enforcement with broader efforts to protect government revenue and Nigeria’s economic interests.

Comptroller Bashir Adewale Adeniyi and the NCS management were commended by the Ogun I Area Command for supporting its operations.

The command attributed the latest seizures to the dedication of its officers and men, alongside cooperation from other security and government agencies.

In a firm warning to smugglers, the command said, “Ogun I Command will continue to be a hostile zone for uncustomed goods and illicit trade.”

The command also disclosed an unusual achievement outside its enforcement duties, revealing that the Ogun I Area Command won the volleyball competition at the Inter-Command Athletic Competitions held in August and September 2026.

It said the result reflected the broader commitment and teamwork of its personnel as the command continues its border security responsibilities.
