Dangote jet fuel exports to Europe jumped to 466,000 tonnes in June, worth about N757bn, overtaking United States shipments in a bearish market

Dangote Petroleum Refinery shipped about 466,000 metric tonnes of jet fuel to Europe in June 2026, a cargo Punch valued at about N757bn, and in that month outsold the United States as a supplier of aviation fuel to the continent.

S&P Global Commodity Insights said Nigerian jet fuel headed for Europe rose from 232,000 tonnes in May to 466,000 tonnes in June, the highest since Nigeria became a net aviation-fuel exporter in 2024, when the Lagos plant began making jet.

That June volume is about 582.5 million litres. At an estimated N1,300 a litre the load is worth about N757.25bn.

United States jet fuel to Europe fell from a record 818,000 tonnes in April to 560,000 tonnes in May and 399,000 tonnes in June.

Nigeria therefore sent more than America in June, even though the American year still started from a higher peak.

The European market had turned bearish after prices slumped from Middle East war highs. Platts put the Northwest Europe jet CIF July contract at $981.75 a tonne on 30 June, down from an all-time high of $1,694.25 on 30 March. The August contract fell from $1,507.50 to $968.25 over the same span.

A trader told the service the glut had several parents. “Jet is oversupplied because of high local refinery production; refineries pushed back maintenance to make the most of the high prices. The US and Dangote also shipped large volumes. Now there are some flows resuming through the Suez, too, from the UAE, but let’s see how it goes.”

Saudi volumes to Europe rose from 7,000 tonnes in May to about 106,000 tonnes in June. India’s rose from 129,000 to 197,000.

UAE and Kuwait flows were absent that month. Two European traders told Platts that Hormuz risk, summer travel and a shift toward diesel could still rebalance the book.

NMDPRA figures show the refinery exported an estimated 1.66 billion litres of products in April 2026: about 513 million litres of petrol, 534 million litres of diesel and 615 million litres of jet.

Nigeria is a net petrol exporter for the first time in decades on the back of that plant. Dangote jet fuel is now part of a wider turn: a country that once queued for imports is sending cargoes into a crowded European sky.
