Dapo Abiodun bye-election intimidation allegations have emerged just days before the pivotal August 16, 2025, poll for the Ikenne/Remo North/Sagamu Federal Constituency, sending shockwaves through Ogun State’s political and traditional circles.

Multiple palace and political sources revealed that on Friday, August 8, Governor Abiodun summoned traditional rulers from the Remo axis to a closed-door meeting under unusual conditions.

The monarchs were told not to arrive in their personal vehicles but were instead bused in by the government — a move critics say was aimed at controlling and monitoring their attendance.

“Deliver APC or Risk Dethronement”
Inside the tense meeting, Governor Abiodun, described by insiders as visibly anxious, allegedly issued a stern warning: any traditional ruler who failed to deliver votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC) would risk losing their throne.

“This bye-election is more than just another vote,” a political insider disclosed.

“It’s a battle for DA’s political survival. Losing again in Remo would shatter any claim that he commands grassroots loyalty in his home base.”

Political Stakes and Past Defeat
The Dapo Abiodun bye-election intimidation reports are seen by analysts as the governor’s attempt to regain political footing after a humiliating 2023 loss in the same Remo zone, where the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) swept votes, denting his credibility in his own backyard.

Observers warn that the move risks eroding the neutrality of traditional institutions and may deepen political divides in local communities.

Silence from Government House
As of press time, Governor Abiodun and his media aides have not responded to repeated calls and messages seeking comment on the allegations.

The August 16 vote, organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), will determine who fills the federal seat left vacant after the passing of Hon. Adewumi Onanuga. But in Remo land, it is fast becoming a referendum on the governor’s influence and political future.
