Delta APC denies attack on Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu and dismisses violence claims, describing its local government congress as peaceful and orderly

The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Saturday denied reports of an attack on the member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, describing the claims as media sensationalism.

In a statement signed by the state Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, the party also dismissed allegations of violence and the emergence of parallel executives following its just-concluded local government congress in Ethiope West Local Government Area and other parts of the state.

Onojeghuo insisted that there was no breach of peace anywhere in Delta during the exercise. He maintained that the congress was conducted strictly in accordance with the party’s constitution and guidelines approved by its National Working Committee.

“There were no parallel congresses anywhere in Delta State. Those peddling such reports are living in self-denial and seeking relevance through deliberate distortion of facts.

The APC structure in Delta State is intact, cohesive and fully integrated,” the statement read.

The spokesman described the congress as peaceful, orderly and rancour-free, adding that it marked a decisive moment for internal party unity.

“Since 2014, this is the first time our party has successfully conducted congresses across Delta State in such a peaceful manner,” Onojeghuo stated.

He said officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission monitored the process, underscoring what he termed its transparency and credibility.

The party lauded Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for fostering improved unity within its ranks and reiterated that there were no incidents of violence in Ethiope Federal Constituency or elsewhere.

“The era of impunity, exclusion and divisive politics is over. What we have today is a broad-based and inclusive structure that accommodates both longstanding members and new entrants,” Onojeghuo added.

The party congratulated newly elected executives across the 25 local government areas and reaffirmed its commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

It urged members to close ranks behind the leadership, stressing that the Delta APC remains united and prepared for future political engagements.
