Speaking during an appearance on Nollywood On Radio, the Lagos State House of Assembly member recounted how he was trapped due to a government-imposed curfew and was forced to take shelter in his office.

The curfew was introduced amid widespread unrest triggered by protests against police brutality, particularly targeting the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

“When there was a curfew during the EndSARS period, a lot of bad boys came into Surulere, and because of the curfew, I could not go home. I was stuck in Lekki, so I had to go back to my office in Surulere,” Elliot explained.

He said he initially planned to spend the night peacefully, but the situation took a dangerous turn. “I was inside my office and never knew there was going to be anything, so I was watching the TV in my office,” he said.

The tension escalated when he heard screams outside his building. “Next thing, I heard my landlady’s daughter screaming, saying I don’t stay there,” Elliot recounted. Moments later, a Molotov cocktail — a bottle filled with fuel and set ablaze — was hurled into the office, setting it on fire.

“I had to call the chief of staff for help. I have never been so scared in my life; it was horrible,” he confessed.

The #EndSARS protests, which began as a peaceful movement against police brutality, became a defining moment in Nigeria’s recent history, prompting both national and international attention.

While the movement led to the official dissolution of SARS, it was marred by violence and loss of life, particularly during the infamous Lekki Toll Gate shooting.
