Destiny Boy burial held in Ogun State as family and fans bid farewell to the late Fuji singer at 22

Fuji singer Afeez Adeshina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, has been laid to rest in Ogun State, drawing an emotional close to a short but influential music career that resonated deeply with fans and colleagues.

The Destiny Boy burial took place on Friday, January 23, 2026, at his father’s residence in the Odo Rori Compound, Ayetoro Yewa, where family members, friends, fellow musicians, and supporters gathered in solemn reflection.

Tearful scenes marked the ceremony as the late singer’s body, conveyed in a white vehicle, was carried on a local mat to its final resting place amid cries from grieving relatives and sympathisers.

Destiny Boy passed away on January 17 at the age of 22 after a prolonged illness. Despite his young age, he had already carved a name for himself within Nigeria’s Fuji music scene through dedication and steady growth rather than spectacle.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Alabi Gbenga described the late singer as kind hearted, humble, and exceptionally hardworking. He said Destiny Boy’s passion for music opened doors to collaborations across the country and left a lasting impression on those who worked closely with him.

His mother, Saidat Adeshina, revealed that her son’s health challenges began about two years ago during preparations for the naming ceremony of his first child. She said the family explored medical and traditional remedies in a determined effort to save his life.

Following his death, an audio recording allegedly featuring Saidat cursing her son circulated online, a claim strongly denied by both her and Destiny Boy’s sister. Saidat also disclosed that she received death threats linked to the controversy surrounding her son’s passing.

In a related development, the Ogun State police command confirmed on Monday that a suspect had been arrested in connection with the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.

A family statement noted that Destiny Boy was born on June 24, 2003, and raised in a close knit environment that shaped his values. From an early age, he was known for his calm nature, respectfulness, and quiet ambition, with music serving as his earliest form of expression.

The statement said his journey into music evolved from experimentation into purpose, allowing him to build a career defined by persistence and discipline.

Colleagues consistently described him as focused, eager to learn, and committed to growth in an industry often driven by fleeting attention.

Beyond his music career, Destiny Boy embraced family life early. He married Oluwatoyin, and their union was blessed with a son, Usman Obatide, born on November 12, 2024.

Loved ones recalled his devotion to his family and his effort to balance personal responsibilities with a rising career.
