Simi criticises men who expect attention after childbirth, highlighting the physical and emotional toll on mothers and the need for support

Nigerian singer and songwriter Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has sparked online debate after criticising men who complain about receiving less attention when their wives give birth.

In a video circulating on social media, Simi explained that the period following childbirth should centre on the mother’s recovery and the baby’s wellbeing.

She emphasised that men should show empathy instead of seeking personal attention during this demanding period.

Simi highlighted the intense physical and emotional strain women endure during pregnancy and delivery, including painful procedures, exhaustion, swelling, and sleepless nights while caring for a newborn.

She said such sacrifices far outweigh any discomfort men may feel from reduced attention, and that complaints from fathers often overlook the reality of mothers’ experiences.

The singer also noted that questions about the father frequently arise immediately after childbirth, shifting focus away from the mother, who has endured months of bodily changes, risks, and potential complications.

Simi argued that concern should prioritise the mother’s health and the baby’s condition rather than the father’s need for attention.

Her comments ignited conversations on social media, with many users agreeing that the focus should remain on supporting mothers during one of the most physically and emotionally demanding periods of their lives.
