EFCC Yahoo Yahoo arrests 2025 reached 1,427 suspects in six months, with Benin zone leading crackdown on internet fraud in Nigeria

The EFCC Yahoo Yahoo arrests 2025 have reached 1,427 suspects nationwide in the first half of the year, according to figures released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Benin Zonal Directorate led the crackdown, carrying out 12 sting operations between January and June and arresting 327 suspects. Abuja followed closely with eight sting operations and 299 arrests.

The EFCC revealed the figures in the latest edition of The EFCC Alert, its official magazine, underscoring its continued clampdown on internet fraud across Nigeria.

Breaking down the arrests, the Commission reported 174 in January, 153 in February, 166 in March, 333 in April, 444 in May, and 157 in June.

“The arrests were made through coordinated operations across the country, with Benin and Abuja recording the highest numbers,” the publication stated.

The operations also extended beyond Nigeria’s borders, with 24 suspects arrested in Ghana during the same period.

Popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo, internet fraud remains a major target of the EFCC, which has intensified sting operations across its zonal offices to curb cybercrime.

The Commission said it would continue to expand its efforts, promising stronger enforcement to combat fraud networks that have plagued communities and tainted Nigeria’s digital economy.
