EFCC arrests internet fraudsters in Lagos as part of an ongoing nationwide operation to dismantle online criminal networks.

On Friday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), through its Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, confirmed the arrest of 38 suspected internet fraudsters in a raid conducted at Mambillah Hotel, Omodisu Street, Ikorodu.

The EFCC revealed in a Facebook post that the arrests were based on “credible intelligence and extensive surveillance” targeting organized cybercrime groups operating in the area.

During the operation, authorities recovered several items including vehicles, smartphones, and a variety of psychoactive and controlled substances.

The suspects are currently in custody and will be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations.

In a related development, two brothers, Teddy Ovbokhan Hart and Rooney Odion Hart, were among 12 individuals convicted on Thursday in Edo State for similar offenses.

Justice M. Itsueli of the Edo State High Court, sitting in Benin City, sentenced them on charges ranging from advance fee fraud to possession of fraudulent documents.

The EFCC reiterated its commitment to pursuing justice against cybercriminals and reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on digital fraud.
