Ekiti automotive sector partnership with NADDC will drive innovation, create jobs, and promote sustainable practices through technology and training

Ekiti automotive sector partnership with the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) is set to unlock new economic opportunities for citizens, according to Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

Represented by Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, the governor spoke at the 2025 NADDC Strategic Management Retreat held at the Ikogosi Warm Spring Resorts in Ekiti.

Describing the automotive industry as “a critical pillar of economic growth, technological advancement and sustainable development,” Oyebanji said Ekiti was ready to collaborate with NADDC in areas that would boost skills development, innovation, and green practices.

“We are actively fostering an environment that encourages investment in sectors like automotive technology, recognising its potential to create jobs, boost economic activity, and enhance the overall well-being of our citizens,” the governor said.

The retreat, themed Fostering Creativity and Innovation for Continuous Performance Improvement, has brought together top government officials, automotive experts, and industry stakeholders to brainstorm future strategies.

Governor Oyebanji also stated, “In Ekiti State, we are particularly interested in exploring opportunities for collaboration in areas such as skills development, research and development and sustainable practices.”

He added that the government would support training programmes focused on electric vehicle technology and automotive software development, stressing the need for local innovation.

“We encourage research institutions and private sector players in Ekiti to collaborate with the NADDC on automotive-related research, with a focus on localising production and developing innovative solutions that are tailored to our specific needs,” he said.

NADDC’s Director-General, Mr Joseph Osanipin, praised the initiative and urged participants to maximise the opportunity.

“Let us make the most of this opportunity to learn, share, and build a stronger, more resilient future together,” Osanipin said.

He outlined three key goals of the retreat: deploying creativity for better service delivery, addressing pressing concerns in the sector, and strengthening collaboration.

Director of Human Resources at NADDC, Mrs Ronke Amodu, explained that Ekiti was chosen for the retreat due to the state’s demonstrated support for entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, and innovation.

“This retreat is about exploring new ideas and challenging existing norms to enhance our performance,” Amodu noted.

The event reflects Ekiti’s commitment to progressive governance and technological advancement.
