Emmanuel Egbosimba faces trial in Lagos for allegedly defiling his daughter for five years. Court orders remand pending DPP legal advice

Emmanuel Egbosimba has been arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defiling his 19-year-old daughter repeatedly over a five-year period.

Police prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the 42-year-old suspect began sexually abusing his daughter in 2020 when she was just 14 years old.

The alleged offences occurred at their residence located at 29B, Olusesi Close, Ile Ewe, Ejigbo, Lagos.

According to the prosecution, the abuse began after the death of the defendant’s wife. The victim, now 19, reportedly endured years of abuse under threats from her father, who warned her against telling anyone about the assaults.

Ademigbuji informed the court that the young woman eventually summoned the courage to report the matter to the police, leading to Egbosimba’s arrest.

The victim allegedly told officers that her father forced himself on her almost daily.

The prosecutor stated that the offence contravened Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes severe penalties for rape and sexual assault.

Chief Magistrate L. A. Owolabi did not take the defendant’s plea. Instead, he ordered that Egbosimba be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), scheduled for 17 November.
