According to the Oyo State Police Command, the incident occurred around 8 a.m. when the victim, driving a metallic grey Nissan Primera, was ambushed by the robbers shortly after leaving a commercial bank.

Police spokesperson CSP Adewale Osifeso confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Ibadan, explaining that the attackers had trailed the victim before striking near the secretariat.

“The Oyo State Police Command seeks to inform the public about a robbery that occurred on Monday, October 27, 2025, at approximately 8:00 a.m. along Secretariat Road, Agodi,” Osifeso said.

He added that the robbers forcibly took away a substantial but yet-to-be-ascertained sum of money, and that a police officer sustained serious injuries during a confrontation with the suspects.

“Initial investigations indicate that an officer sustained severe injuries when his team on patrol engaged the suspects in an attempt to stop further chaos after the attack on the victim,” Osifeso noted, adding that the injured officer is currently receiving treatment at a secure medical facility.

No fatalities were recorded, but the brazen nature of the attack has raised fresh concerns about rising daylight robberies in the city. Residents expressed fear over the security situation, particularly around major financial institutions and government buildings.

The command urged members of the public to provide credible information that could lead to the prompt arrest of the suspects, assuring that investigations were already underway.

The incident comes barely two months after a similar armed robbery attack in Ibadan claimed the life of journalist Ojo Peters, media aide to Maharaj Ji, who was killed in August at Oke-Ado, Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.
