FCT doctors end strike after Wike’s approval of their demands, with ARD-FCTA giving a four-week window for full implementation

The Association of Resident Doctors in the Federal Capital Territory Administration suspended its indefinite strike on Monday in Abuja, 1 December 2025, after Minister of the FCT Nyesom Wike approved key demands, bringing an initial end to a disruptive FCT doctors end strike that lasted 30 days.

President of ARD-FCTA, Dr George Ebong, confirmed the decision in a message to our correspondent, noting that the suspension would last four weeks.

He warned that doctors would resume industrial action if the Federal Capital Territory Administration failed to implement the approved measures within that period.

The strike, which began on 1 November, involved doctors across 14 district and general hospitals, as well as the Department of Public Health.

The industrial action sought improved working conditions, enhanced welfare, fair remuneration and broader reforms to strengthen the health system.

Medical services across the FCT were significantly affected, with delays in patient care and added pressure on the skeletal workforce that remained on duty.

The impact highlighted persistent systemic challenges within the territory’s healthcare structure.

Dr Ebong said the association acted in good faith by suspending the strike, expressing hope that the minister’s approvals would be honoured promptly.

He added that the four-week window was a test of the administration’s commitment to resolving long-standing issues.
