Victor Osimhen risks return for the Fenerbahce derby as the Galatasaray striker declares readiness after a hamstring injury setback

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen said in Istanbul on Monday, 1 December 2025, that he is prepared to make a risky return from a hamstring injury for the club’s Super Lig match-day 14 derby against rivals Fenerbahce, marking a determined Osimhen risks return ahead of the season’s most anticipated fixture.

Osimhen missed Galatasaray’s last two matches after sustaining the injury while on international duty with Nigeria during their defeat to DR Congo in the 2026 World Cup African play-off final.

Galatasaray confirmed two weeks ago that the forward had begun treatment following a scan, though the club did not provide a recovery timeline.

Turkish journalist Mehmet Özcan reported that Osimhen informed his teammates he was willing to give everything for the derby.

In comments revealed by Forza Cimbom, the striker said he understood the importance of the match to supporters and emphasised that he was ready to take risks to help the team.

Osimhen did not feature in the league game against Genclerbirligi or the Champions League loss to USG, leaving uncertainty over whether he will be cleared to play.

Galatasaray go into the derby with 32 points, holding a narrow one-point lead over their rivals at the top of the Super Lig table.

During his loan spell at the club last season, Osimhen faced Fenerbahce three times, scoring twice in a cup tie and delivering an assist in a league victory.

His strong record in major fixtures has fuelled expectations that he could influence the outcome if declared fit.

The 26-year-old has scored three goals in nine league appearances this season and nine in 12 matches across all competitions.

He joined Galatasaray permanently last summer after a prolific loan campaign from Napoli, when he scored 37 goals in 41 games.
