Femi Azeez Brighton move is nearing completion after Brighton agreed a deal worth up to £15m with Millwall for the Nigeria international

Nigeria international Femi Azeez underwent a medical in Brighton on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, ahead of his permanent move from Millwall to Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth up to £15 million.

The 25-year-old winger was given permission by Millwall to complete his medical after Brighton and the Championship club reached an agreement on deadline day.

The package includes an initial £12.5 million transfer fee, with performance-related add-ons taking the overall value beyond £15 million. Azeez is expected to sign a four-year contract running until June 2030, with Brighton holding an option to extend the agreement for another year.

The agreement brings an end to a summer of sustained interest in the winger, with Brighton having previously seen multiple offers rejected by Millwall.

Millwall had placed a £15 million valuation on Azeez and remained reluctant to sell until Brighton moved closer to that figure.

The player was also understood to be keen on making the switch to the Amex Stadium and taking the next step in his career in the Premier League.

Azeez’s move follows a breakthrough 2025/26 season in which the forward became one of the Championship’s most productive attacking players.

He scored 11 goals and provided seven assists for Millwall in the league, while other reports record eight assists across 35 Championship appearances. His performances earned him a place in the PFA Championship Team of the Year.

His club form also opened the door to international football.

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle handed Azeez his first Super Eagles call-up, and the winger made an immediate impression during the Unity Cup.

Azeez scored twice against Zimbabwe before providing an assist against Jamaica in the final as Nigeria retained the tournament.

The performances strengthened his emerging reputation and added an international dimension to his growing profile.

The Brighton move represents a significant rise for a player whose career has followed an unconventional route.

Azeez began his senior career outside the professional game after leaving Watford’s academy, before spells with Northwood, Wealdstone and Reading helped him rebuild his path into professional football.

Reading eventually gave him his opportunity in the professional game, and Millwall signed him from the Berkshire club in 2024 for around £1 million.

Two years later, Millwall stand to receive as much as £15 million for the winger, potentially turning the transfer into one of the most profitable sales in the club’s recent history.

If the performance clauses are activated, the deal could surpass Romain Esse’s £14 million move to Crystal Palace and become Millwall’s record sale.

For Brighton, Azeez provides another attacking option as manager Fabian Hürzeler continues to build depth within his squad.

The Seagulls have been particularly active during the summer window, and the addition of Azeez gives Hürzeler a player capable of operating in wide attacking positions while bringing experience from the Championship and international football.

The timing of the transfer is significant for Azeez personally. His ambition to test himself in the Premier League had been evident throughout the summer, while Brighton’s persistence eventually produced the breakthrough required to secure his signature.

Azeez suffered an injury during Millwall’s opening Championship fixture against Bristol City and has been sidelined since, although the injury has not prevented the transfer from progressing.

The move now offers the Nigeria international the opportunity to establish himself at the highest level of English domestic football.

For Millwall, it represents a substantial financial return on a player acquired for about £1 million. For Brighton, it is an investment in a winger whose recent development has been rapid.

For Azeez, however, the transfer carries perhaps the greatest significance.

From being released by Watford’s academy to rebuilding his career through lower-league and Championship football, the 25-year-old is now on the verge of a Premier League breakthrough.
