Flooding in Nigeria has left over 119,000 affected, with women and children bearing the brunt. NEMA reveals shocking figures across 19 states, with 165 deaths

Flooding in Nigeria has taken a devastating toll this year, with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) revealing that women and children are the most affected in the 19 states impacted by heavy floods.

According to NEMA’s latest data dashboard, over 119,000 people have been affected. Among them, 53,314 are children and 36,573 are women, making them the most vulnerable victims of this year’s disaster.

The top five states with the highest number of victims include Imo, Rivers, Abia, Borno, and Kaduna. The data highlights a grim reality: 165 lives have been lost, 82 individuals are still missing, and 43,936 people displaced from their homes.

A total of 8,594 houses have been damaged and 8,278 farmlands destroyed across 43 Local Government Areas in the affected states.

Tragically, the flood also affected 5,304 elderly people and 1,863 individuals living with disabilities, raising alarms about the need for targeted support for at-risk groups.
