Manchester United CEO Omar Berrada remains committed to his ambitious “Project 150” vision of winning the Premier League and WSL titles by 2028, despite the men’s team finishing a dismal 15th and the club missing out on European football

Manchester United’s chief executive, Omar Berrada, is holding firm on his ambitious target of winning the Premier League title by 2028, a goal set to coincide with the club’s 150th anniversary.

This steadfast commitment comes despite what has been a historically bad season for Ruben Amorim’s team.

The 20-time English champions endured their worst top-flight campaign since they were relegated in 1973/74, ultimately finishing a dismal 15th place in the league, a massive 42 points behind champions Liverpool.

Their woes were compounded by a loss in the Europa League final to Tottenham, which means the club will face no European football next season.

Berrada initially outlined his “Project 150” vision to staff in September of last year, setting out the ambitious aim to secure both the Premier League title for the men’s team and the Women’s Super League (WSL) title in 2028.

While United’s men’s team faces a formidable ascent to reach this target, the women’s side, who have never won the WSL, face the daunting task of dislodging Chelsea, a club that has dominated the league by winning the past six consecutive titles.

United’s women’s team finished third in the WSL, 16 points behind champions Chelsea, who also defeated them in the FA Cup final.

Despite these significant challenges, Berrada, who previously served as chief football operations officer at Manchester City, expresses confidence that a double title success within just three years is achievable.

“It’s establishing a series of targets within a timeframe so we can focus our efforts and energy on that goal,” Berrada stated in an interview with the United We Stand fanzine, an interview set to be published on Wednesday.

He continued, questioning the possibility: “Can the team win the Premier League title by 2028? Of course. We’ve just finished 15th and it seems an impossible task. But why not aim for it? Why not do everything in our power?”

In three years’ time, Manchester United will mark 150 years since the club was founded as Newton Heath in 1878.

The club has not been crowned English champions since Alex Ferguson’s final season in charge in 2012/13, yet Berrada remains confident in his vision.

“I firmly believe we can do it,” he affirmed. “We have two or three summer windows to build a team to start competing to win the Premier League.”
