Rivers Governor Fubara dissolves cabinet after meeting Wike and President Tinubu, sparking public reactions

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has sacked all commissioners, special advisers, and political appointees as he dissolved the state executive council, a move announced by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi.

The action followed a reconciliation meeting between Fubara, former Governor Nyesom Wike now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and President Bola Tinubu. Fubara and Wike had previously been at odds over the control of the state’s political structure shortly after the governor assumed office.

Fubara instructed that all commissioners and special advisers hand over their responsibilities to the most senior officers or permanent secretaries in their respective ministries, ensuring continuity of governance.

The cabinet shake-up has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media. Hon. Nuhu Sada described the move as part of true leadership: “Change at the top is part of governance.

True leadership ensures continuity and stability beyond any officeholders.”

Others, however, criticized Fubara’s approach. One user argued that the governor had not legally appointed any commissioners cleared by the House of Assembly, calling him “unruly” and untrustworthy.

Another commenter stated, “Siminalayi Fubara is now in charge of Rivers State. Nyesom Wike has been politically sidelined. Fubara’s re-election announcement will mark a new chapter in Rivers politics.”

Meanwhile, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has distanced the party from the ongoing Wike-Fubara conflict, emphasizing that the party remains neutral as lawmakers switch allegiance and Fubara counters impeachment threats ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections.
