The 21-year-old Spain international, who appeared in Barcelona’s opening two matches this season, sustained the injury during training in August.

Initial fears suggested a recurrence of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear he suffered in 2023.

However, scans confirmed that Gavi avoided another ACL tear but required surgery to address damaged cartilage.

In an official statement, Barcelona confirmed:
“Gavi has had an arthroscopy to resolve a medial meniscus injury, which was sutured to preserve the meniscus. Recovery time is estimated at around 4-5 months.”

Gavi made his Barcelona debut in 2021, becoming the club’s fourth youngest ever debutant.

Since then, he has played 155 games, scoring 10 goals and winning five trophies.

The midfielder’s previous ACL injury occurred during international duty with Spain in November 2023, resulting in an 11-month absence.
