Gombe health care revitalization advances universal coverage as Deputy Governor Jatau commissions 114 upgraded primary health facilities

The Gombe health care revitalization initiative took a major step forward as Deputy Governor Dr. Manassah Jatau commissioned 114 revitalised Primary Health Care facilities across the state on Saturday.

Speaking at the event held at Akko PHC, Jatau emphasized the administration’s commitment to health since 2019 under Governor Muhammadu Yahaya’s leadership.

“Health is too important to be delayed in reporting and responding. There must be no time to waste or wait on any health challenge,” he said.

The state’s health budget allocation has impressively risen from 3.5 percent in 2019 to 15 percent in 2025, aligning with the Abuja Declaration and strengthening institutions to improve healthcare delivery.

Thanks to the Gombe Contributory Health Agency, over 300,000 residents now enjoy improved access to healthcare services.

Meanwhile, the Drug Management Agency has ensured consistent supply of essential medicines, significantly reducing stock-outs.

Jatau also highlighted the impact of the World Bank’s IMPACT project, which helped revamp 103 Primary Health Centres and 66 Health Clinics, providing solar power, water supply, medical equipment, and staff housing.

He called on communities to take ownership of these facilities, urging collaboration to maintain and effectively utilize them for long-term benefits.

The Deputy Governor also praised civil society organizations, traditional and religious leaders, local government chairmen, and the World Bank technical team led by Dr. Oniorede for their support.

“Based on these performances, Gombe State has received awards from national and international organisations. But as it is not yet here, we must improve our work attitude and ethics in rendering this important assignment for humanity,” he concluded.
