Gombe police recover ammunition after operatives found 119 rounds of AK-47 live bullets hidden along Kwadon Road

The Gombe State Police Command has recovered 119 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition concealed inside a sack along Kalshingi Road in Kwadon, Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State.

The recovery was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, who said the operation followed credible intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer of Kwadon Division at about 10:30am on May 19, 2026.

DSP Buhari Abdullahi said the intelligence report indicated that a suspicious white sack had been hidden under a tree opposite a graveyard along the road.

According to the police spokesperson, the Divisional Police Officer immediately led a team of detectives to the scene where the sack was recovered and thoroughly searched.

Items recovered from the sack included 119 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition, two empty ammunition packets, two bottles containing moringa seeds, and one green bag.

DSP Buhari Abdullahi said police operatives swiftly combed nearby bushes and adjoining areas following the discovery, but no arrest had been made as of Thursday.

“The Command has intensified monitoring and surveillance in the area while investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend those connected with the concealed ammunition,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, Bello Yahaya, praised residents who provided the timely intelligence that led to the powerful recovery.

Bello Yahaya also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with credible information to strengthen efforts aimed at protecting lives and property across the state.

The latest development comes days after the Kano State Police Command arrested a suspected arms dealer during a sting operation in Dala Local Government Area.
