Harry Kane Arsenal return sees Bayern striker in top form ahead of crucial Champions League clash against his former rivals

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane will return to north London on Wednesday to face Arsenal in a crucial UEFA Champions League clash, the England captain in arguably the finest form of his career after dropping into a deeper, more creative role.

Kane, 32, has been a consistent goalscorer while at Bayern, but the German champions have also benefited from his growing defensive and playmaking contributions.

He has featured in all 18 of Bayern’s matches this season, helping the club win 17 and draw one across all competitions.

The striker has scored 24 goals in 18 appearances for Bayern this season and five goals in as many matches for England.

Against Arsenal, Kane has 15 goals in 21 career encounters and could be the key to unlocking the Gunners’ notoriously tight defence, which has conceded just six goals in the Premier League and none in the Champions League so far.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany has often deployed Kane in a role behind Nicolas Jackson or Serge Gnabry, compensating for Jamal Musiala’s absence due to injury.

Kane has embraced the responsibilities, highlighting his enjoyment of a more all-encompassing role.

“I know I’m not just a goal-scorer. I can impact the team with passing, one-on-one situations, and taking the pressure off the team,” Kane said after Bayern’s 6-2 victory over Freiburg on Saturday. “This is the most I’ve enjoyed my football because I’m just involved more.”

The England captain will also be tasked with filling the scoring void left by Luis Diaz, who is suspended for three Champions League matches following a red card against Paris Saint-Germain.

Kane’s ties to north London run deep. After joining Tottenham’s academy as a youth, he was released by Arsenal, but the striker now faces his old rivals on the European stage without lingering bitterness.

“It was 20 years ago, a long time ago. We’ve moved on a long way since then,” Kane said.

Arsenal, meanwhile, boast a strength in set-pieces, a vulnerability Bayern have struggled with recently, conceding four goals from dead-ball situations in their last two matches.

Kompany acknowledged the weakness but expressed confidence in his side’s ability to overcome it.
