Hrgovic Itauma Fight Build-Up grows after Filip Hrgovic stops Dave Allen in three rounds, setting up a possible August showdown with Moses Itauma

Croatian heavyweight Filip Hrgović moved a step closer to a high-profile summer clash with British-Nigerian prospect Moses Itauma after producing a dominant third-round stoppage win over Dave Allen in Doncaster on May 16.

Hrgović controlled the bout from the opening bell at the Eco-Power Stadium, landing heavy right hands and forcing Allen onto the back foot as he dictated the pace with ease.

The Croatian’s accuracy and pressure gradually broke down his opponent in a one-sided contest.

The fight ended in the third round after Hrgović dropped Allen with a left hook, although the referee initially ruled it a slip.

Allen’s corner ultimately stepped in at 2:37 of the round, with trainer Jamie Moore ending the contest to prevent further punishment.

The stoppage drew boos from sections of the home crowd, though Allen later defended the decision, praising his corner for prioritising his safety.

Attention quickly shifted to what could be next for Hrgović, with talks intensifying over a potential August showdown with Itauma, one of the most highly rated rising heavyweights in world boxing.

Promoter Frank Warren confirmed discussions are progressing, with Manchester now expected to host the proposed fight rather than London’s O2 Arena.

Hrgović also expressed willingness to accept the bout immediately, signalling readiness to face the unbeaten prospect without delay.

Itauma, 21, has rapidly built a reputation as one of boxing’s most explosive young talents, stopping 12 of his 14 professional opponents, including a notable victory over Jermaine Franklin Jr earlier this year.

Hrgović, now rebuilding momentum after his only career defeat to Daniel Dubois in 2024, has since recorded wins over Joe Joyce and David Adeleye as he re-establishes himself in the heavyweight division.
