Ibadan fire destroys property worth millions as two residential buildings are gutted in separate incidents across Oyo State, no casualties recorded

Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed following two separate fire outbreaks that ravaged residential buildings in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Thursday.

The first incident occurred at No. 16 Majekobaje community, Idi Osan along the Iwo Expressway, where a three-bedroom flat was engulfed by flames and thick smoke before firefighters arrived at the scene.

Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident, stating that operatives quickly intervened to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining buildings.

“No casualty was recorded, and the fire incident was as a result of firewood not properly put out after use, which later ignited nearby combustible materials,” Akinwande explained.

A second fire outbreak was also recorded at No. 32 Oshodi Street, Olorunsogo, behind Scout Camp in the Felele area of Ibadan, where the kitchen of another residential building was affected.

Fire service officials confirmed that swift response efforts helped contain both incidents, preventing further destruction and loss of life.

Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution with flammable materials, particularly in densely populated residential areas.
