Igbo National Council launches Ballot Revolution campaign, targeting 20 million Igbo voters and unveiling a Political Charter ahead of 2027 polls

The Igbo National Council (INC) has unveiled a voter mobilisation initiative tagged the Ballot Revolution campaign aimed at boosting Igbo participation in the 2027 general elections.

The group said the programme seeks to galvanise more than 20 million Igbo people across Nigeria to register and vote, positioning electoral participation as the primary tool for advancing political relevance.

In a press statement, INC National Coordinator, Chilos Godsent, said the campaign was designed to encourage mass political involvement of the Igbo nation ahead of the polls.

He stated that the council believes voting remains the strongest instrument for acquiring political power, particularly within Nigeria’s current political climate.

“The project is designed to mobilise twenty million Igbo voters to register, vote, and influence state, regional, and national elections in 2027. INC has warned that low voter turnout weakens the Igbo nation politically and described past voter apathy as self-inflicted,” Godsent said.

According to him, the initiative was conceived in response to what the group perceives as political exclusion of the Igbo people from national leadership, decision-making structures, and key sectors of governance.

Godsent cited survey findings indicating concerns over limited federal appointments, abandoned infrastructure, and reduced political influence in the region.

He said the council and its allied groups believe that only active political participation can address these challenges, noting that while Igbo people are widely dispersed across Nigeria and represent a significant voting population, this has not translated into proportional political influence.

“INC leadership understands that the Igbo population is large but not effectively organised politically. Therefore, the Igbo Nation Ballot Revolution 2027 seeks to unify Igbo votes as a powerful political bloc in Nigeria,” he added.

The coordinator explained that the campaign also aims to foster a shared political vision for the region ahead of the elections. As part of the plan, the council intends to unveil an Igbo Political Charter at its 2026 political summit to guide collective political action.

Godsent described the 2027 elections as a strategic opportunity to redefine the political relevance of the Igbo nation, expressing the group’s goal of positioning the region’s votes as decisive in future national contests.
