Igbo Political Network deploys over 5,000 observers to monitor the Anambra governorship election, urging INEC and security agencies to ensure fairness

The Igbo Political Network has announced the mobilisation and deployment of over 5,000 independent observers to monitor the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship election scheduled for Saturday, 8 November 2025.

The group said the move was part of its efforts to safeguard transparency and credibility in what it described as a historic and defining political event for the South-East region.

Speaking in Enugu on Monday, the President of the organisation, Chief Alex Okemiri, said the Igbo Political Network was determined to ensure that the voices of the people were heard and that the outcome of the election reflected the genuine will of the electorate.

“All eyes are on Anambra State come November 8,” Okemiri declared. “This election remains epochal not only for Anambra but for the entire Igbo land. It will be a major test of our political maturity and unity as a people.”

He stressed that since its inception in 2015, the organisation had consistently advocated fairness, transparency and peaceful political engagement across the South-East.

According to him, the network’s latest initiative aims to prevent intimidation, violence and manipulation by external political forces.

Okemiri, who described the decision as a bold and necessary move, revealed that despite economic challenges, members of the organisation contributed personal resources to make the deployment possible.

“The election is key for our people,” he said. “We cannot afford to be complacent when the political destiny of Ndigbo is at stake.”

He also made a passionate appeal to the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, to ensure a transparent and credible process.

“We call on the new INEC Chairman to live above board,” he urged. “This election is his first major national test, and Nigerians are watching closely. He must guarantee that every vote counts and that the process is free of bias or manipulation.”

Okemiri further warned that any attempt to compromise the election would attract strong public outrage, stressing that Nigerians were already weary of electoral malpractice.

He called on security agencies to conduct themselves professionally during the polls and ensure the safety of voters, officials, and observers. “We are ready to work with the authorities to halt every act of vote-buying and intimidation,” he said.

The Igbo Political Network, through this action, reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, equity and accountability in the region’s political landscape, while insisting that the forthcoming Anambra poll must stand as a symbol of democratic integrity in Nigeria.
