Inter believe a Curtis Jones deal could be completed for €35m, but must wait for Davide Frattesi’s exit before making another Liverpool bid

Inter Milan are increasingly confident of signing Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones for around €35 million, with the Italian club preparing to make another move before the summer transfer window closes.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, that Inter have maintained Jones as their priority midfield target since May and now believe an agreement with Liverpool could be possible at the €35 million mark.

However, Inter are not yet ready to submit a fresh offer.

Romano said the club will wait for Davide Frattesi’s departure before receiving the green light to make another approach for Jones.

“Inter maintain Curtis Jones as priority target since May and now feel deal could happen with Liverpool at €35m fee,” Romano wrote.

“There’s still no green light to new bid until Davide Frattesi’s exit but Inter definitely will try again for Curtis before the window ends.”

The latest development represents a change in Inter’s position after Liverpool rejected previous approaches for the 25-year-old midfielder.

Reports indicate that Inter have already made two bids this summer, with the biggest understood to have been worth around €30 million. Liverpool had previously been looking for a fee closer to €40 million or more.

Inter’s growing confidence that €35 million could be enough suggests the gap between the two clubs may now be narrowing.

Jones, a Liverpool academy graduate, remains an important figure at Anfield but has entered the final year of his current contract, with his deal running until 2027.

That contract situation has added urgency to Liverpool’s decision. The club must weigh the value of retaining a homegrown midfielder against the risk of losing him for nothing if an extension cannot be agreed.

Inter’s pursuit of Jones is also closely connected to Frattesi’s future.

The Italian midfielder is available for a move this summer, but Inter want his departure resolved before committing funds to another midfield signing.

Lazio have reportedly shown interest in Frattesi, while previous negotiations have also involved Nottingham Forest.

That makes Frattesi’s exit a potential trigger for Inter’s next move for Jones.

The Nerazzurri have been tracking Jones for several months and previously explored a loan arrangement before the proposal collapsed.

Earlier negotiations were complicated by Liverpool’s concerns over squad depth and Jones’ contract situation.

The midfielder’s future at Liverpool therefore remains uncertain as the transfer window approaches its final stages.

For Inter, the message is clear: Jones remains the priority, but the club must first create room in its squad and finances through Frattesi’s departure.

For Liverpool, the decision will centre on whether €35 million represents sufficient value for a player developed through the club’s academy, particularly with the midfielder approaching the final year of his contract.

As things stand, no agreement has been reached and Inter have not yet submitted their new bid.
