Jos Market Fire destroys 20 shops and vehicles at Faringada Market, with NEMA confirming no casualties as investigations continue

The National Emergency Management Agency on March 4, 2026 confirmed that a Jos Market Fire at Faringada Market in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State destroyed 20 shops in the early hours of Tuesday.

In a statement posted on its official X account, the agency said the blaze broke out at about 6:00 a.m., affecting mainly shops dealing in vehicle spare parts.

The National Emergency Management Agency stated that four containers and two vehicles, including a bus and a Toyota Corolla, were also consumed by the flames. No casualties were recorded.

The agency added that its Jos Operations Office collaborated with the Federal Fire Service to contain what officials described as an intense outbreak.

Emergency responders prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining sections of the bustling market.

Preliminary information gathered from market stakeholders indicates that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
