Joseph Aloba prosecution demand intensifies as Mohbad’s father urges Lagos Government to prosecute widow and others indicted by Coroner’s report

Joseph Aloba prosecution demand has reignited public debate over the handling of justice in the case of his late son, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

Joseph Aloba has formally urged the Lagos State Government to prosecute his son’s widow, Omowunmi Aloba, and others indicted by the Coroner’s Inquest into the singer’s death.

In a petition addressed to the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN, and signed by Aloba’s counsel, Wahab Shittu SAN, the bereaved father demanded that those found culpable be brought before the law.

According to the letter, Aloba specifically sought the prosecution of the auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who administered an injection to the late artist shortly before his death in September 2023.

The petition also urged authorities to charge those present in Mohbad’s apartment who either invited the nurse or failed to seek timely medical attention.

The Coroner’s verdict delivered in July 2025 by Magistrate Taofikat Shotobi found Ogedengbe’s actions both “unlawful and professionally negligent,” faulting the nurse for administering an injection without a doctor’s prescription.

The Magistrate further criticised Mohbad’s wife for opting for home treatment rather than taking her husband to a medical facility.

Despite these damning findings, Aloba’s lawyer expressed disappointment that over two months after the Coroner’s report, the Lagos State Government has yet to initiate any criminal proceedings.

“Our client, as a bereaved father who seeks justice, is deeply troubled by the fact that, despite the clear indictments contained in the Coroner’s verdict, no prosecutorial steps have been taken since July 11, 2025,” Shittu stated.

The lawyer urged the Attorney-General to commence prosecution within 14 days, stressing that the Joseph Aloba prosecution demand aligns with both public interest and the urgent need to uphold justice.

He further requested that if the state fails to act, the Attorney-General should authorise his legal team to prosecute the matter on behalf of the state under the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State.

Aloba’s renewed call has intensified public pressure on the government to act decisively, as many Nigerians continue to demand accountability in the controversial death of Mohbad.
