Katsina hybrid buses launch to modernise transport, reduce emissions, and enhance city mobility in a groundbreaking eco-friendly initiative

Katsina hybrid buses are ushering in a new era of eco-conscious public transport as the state government unveils a fleet of modern, fuel-efficient vehicles.

The initiative, championed by Governor Dikko Radda, is being hailed as a major positive step towards cleaner urban mobility in Katsina.

At a formal ceremony held in Abuja, the hybrid-electric buses were introduced as part of a wider strategy to modernise intra-city transport and promote environmental sustainability.

Each bus is equipped to run on both electric power and a reduced-size combustion engine, significantly cutting down on fuel consumption and harmful emissions.

Governor Radda’s vision for a greener and more efficient Katsina took root following a high-level visit to China last year.

That diplomatic mission has now borne fruit, with international partners such as Zhong Tong Bus and Woerka Nigeria Limited working alongside the state to bring this bold project to life.

Speaking at the unveiling, Oshi Bernard, President of Ben 10 Equipment Company and key partner in the project, praised Radda’s drive and dedication, describing the governor as industrious and committed to youth empowerment.

“This isn’t just about buses,” he said, “It’s about creating a sustainable future for Katsina and improving the everyday lives of its people.”

The first phase of the rollout includes 30 hybrid buses, 60 designated bus stops, and three major transport terminals in Katsina, Daura, and Funtua.

Each bus can carry between 45 and 55 passengers, providing reliable, cost-effective alternatives to older, fuel-heavy vehicles.

Project manager Wei Yanbin confirmed construction begins this October, with full implementation expected within six months.

Once operational, the system is set to ease congestion, reduce pollution, and raise the standard of urban mobility across the state.

The Katsina hybrid buses project is more than a transport upgrade — it’s a statement of intent from a government investing in sustainability and long-term impact.
