Katsina State Scholarship Board approves ₦372 million bursary for 24,452 students as Governor Radda strengthens education and human capital development

The Katsina State Scholarship Board has approved over ₦372 million in bursary allowances for 24,452 continuing students, reaffirming Governor Dikko Radda’s strong commitment to education and human capital development.

Dr Aminu Salisu-Tsauri, the Executive Secretary of the board, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Katsina.

He emphasised that the approval underscores the governor’s steadfast belief that education is the foundation for peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.

Since Governor Radda’s administration began, bursary disbursements have demonstrated a consistent focus on student welfare.

Over ₦637.9 million was disbursed to nearly 48,000 students in 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 sessions, while ₦544.2 million reached more than 37,000 students in the following academic years.

For 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 sessions, over ₦744.1 million was distributed to over 50,000 students.

Looking ahead, approvals for the 2024/2025 local scholarships will soon be granted for 12,609 fresh students.

The board will also introduce prestigious awards for academic excellence and special scholarships for students with special needs, which will be unveiled during the upcoming inauguration ceremony where Governor Radda will be formally honoured.

With these interventions, the total number of beneficiaries supported by the scholarship board now stands at an unprecedented 174,461 students.

The board is committed to ensuring the smooth and timely disbursement of these bursary funds, while the governor’s administration has also sponsored students to study abroad in highly specialised and competitive fields, raising Katsina’s profile on the global stage.

In related educational reforms, the state government revoked licenses for all private and community schools in August to enhance quality assurance, standardisation, and regulation of teaching and learning, according to the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Zainab Musa-Musawa.
