Katsina Teachers Training Programme launches with 18,000 teachers to be trained and 20,000 tablets distributed to enhance education quality across the state

Katsina Teachers Training Programme has been officially launched by the Katsina State Government, aiming to upskill 18,000 educators and distribute 20,000 tablets to selected beneficiaries—marking a major milestone in the state’s education reform drive.

The launch event, held on Friday and presided over by Deputy Governor Faruq Jobe on behalf of Governor Dikko Radda, signalled a bold step toward digital transformation in education.

“These are not just statistics but a strategic investment in the future of our children,” said the Deputy Governor.

“By equipping teachers with modern tools and training, we’re aligning with global education standards.”

As part of the initiative, 90 master trainers will cascade their expertise to the broader pool of teachers across the state. Each teacher will receive a tablet preloaded with lesson plans, digital resources, and teaching aids.

The programme, delivered under the Transforming Education Systems at State Level (TESS) initiative, is supported by the World Bank, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), and the Federal Government.

Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hajiya Zainab Musawa, hailed the move as a “significant milestone” in restoring educational quality in Katsina. She extended appreciation to development partners and reiterated the government’s long-term commitment to capacity building.

Further supporting the initiative, the government also announced complementary educational interventions:

• Distribution of 30,000 uniforms to underprivileged children
• Deployment of specialised aids for schools for the blind and deaf
• Installation of CCTV cameras in 130 schools to strengthen safety
• Provision of 70 motorcycles to aid rural school monitoring

State Project Coordinator Hajiya Binta Abdulmumini underscored the program’s sustainability, noting that local and international best practices are embedded in the training design.

Chairperson of the Katsina State Teachers’ Association, Hajiya Rakiya Shehu, commended the government’s progressive approach and called on teachers to fully engage with the tools and training.

Dignitaries in attendance included Chief Judge Justice Musa Danladi, Commissioner for Higher, Technical, and Vocational Education, Hajiya Ummulkhairi Ahmed Bawa, SUBEB Chairman Dr. Kabir Magaji, and other top officials from government and private sectors.
